30 June 2016 - Alison Crowther Smith Mitts from her new book Elements and Book signing - £40.00 In-Stock
Ref: 30 June 2016 - Alison Crowther Smith Mitts
Knit the Drift Mittens from Alison’s new book, co-authored with Donna Jones, ‘Elements’ on 30 June 2016, 10.30 – 4.30.
These elegant fingerless mitts are knitted in the round, and feature several new design elements. The cuff is deeply folded, and also beaded, to add texture and sparkle; there is a lace-edged fully fitted thumb and a neat ribbed hand section for an excellent fit.
They are knitted on DPNs and this is how Alison will teach the class but you can knit them Magic Loop or on 2 short circular needles if you like. You will need to have:
• 2 x 50g balls of Rowan Baby Merino Silk DK yarn (or another DK yarn with a 100% or fairly high wool content)
• A set of 3mm DPNs (or other needles of this size to knit in the round)
• 3 stitch markers
• 170 beads, size 6
• A large safety pin
• A fine hand-sewing needle threaded with fine cotton
Alison assesses these mittens as being suitable for a fairly experienced knitter who is reasonably confident – and you do need to already know how to knit in the round. It is not a beginners knit, but all other techniques can be taught on the day.
